Congratulations to Eric Stoddart for being nominated as Student of the Week!
We finished reading The Whipping Boy this week. Next week we will do a final assessment on the novel, as well as a few culminating activities. We will also be taking the REACH beginning of the year reading assessment. In math, we will work on estimation with addition and incorporate word problems. In science, students will be testing and designing dams to help prepare them for their design engineering project. We finished reading The Whipping Boy novel today in reading class. Tomorrow the students will do some activities related to the book and its theme.
Homework: Prince Brat and the King had a private conversation when Prince and Jemmy returned to the castle. Write the conversation you think the Prince and his father had. Should be 1 full page. The fundraiser has been extended to October 5th. Homework:
Reading: re-read chapters 13-16 of The Whipping Boy. We will be having a test tomorrow. I would like to thank all of the parents who attended Open House on Thursday.
Congratulations to Mario Alliey for being selected as Student of the Week! This week in science we will begin studying topographic maps to continue to build our understanding of how landscapes change over time. We will be finishing our Whipping Boy novel. In math, we will continue with place value and work on rounding numbers to various places. Reminders: School fundraiser is due on Friday, September 30th. Scholastic book orders for September are due by Monday, September 26th. Today we had a fire drill and all of the students did an excellent job. The class was complimented by many other teachers and looked to as an example for how to behave. I am very proud of them!

Students will be taking the second reading quiz on The Whipping Boy tomorrow. They should reread chapters 5 - 8 to prepare for the test. Students were given back their multiplication timed test from last week. They should be practicing their facts on a daily basis for at least 10 minutes to help them gain mastery. I will have a list of activities to go home with you at Open House on Thursday.

This week in Science we will continue to investigate how wind, water, and ice impact the Earth. Students will be doing an in-class assessment at the end of the week., In math, we will move on to comparing and rounding whole number. During reading, we will continue to read The Whipping Boy and work on summarizing chapters. We will meet our pre-K buddies on Tuesday morning. Just a reminder OPEN HOUSE is Thursday from 5:00 - 6:00. It will be an opportunity to learn about the 4th grade policies and activities. Hope to see all of you there! Students were given a Scholastic Books order form today. The due date for orders in Monday, September 26th. If you would like to place the order online, the classroom code is HDM24.
Homework: Reading: The Main Events worksheet. Write the main ideas for each of the four "news" stories and then write a creative headline. Math: Some students had difficulty on their place value class assignment and homework assignment from Monday. They are bringing the assignments home to correct. They should be using their notes to help them. All corrections should be made on loose leaf paper. The original assignment and the corrections need to be turned in together on Thursday. |
