Monday is our field trip to the Logan Center for the Arts. We will be walking, so please check the weather and be sure your child is dressed appropriately. Students will be eating lunch when they return. In reading, students will finish reading their novels. Our work will be on summarizing and theme. We will take an assessment on metric conversions on Wednesday and review multiplication facts on Thursday. On Monday and Tuesday, we will prepare for Wednesday's test. During science, students will be presenting their natural disaster projects and writing a final analysis of their work and outcomes. Just a reminder that Thursday, November 4th is the last day of the first quarter. There is no school on Friday, November 5th. Homework:
Math -- Lesson 4 Exit Slip, students should follow the Lesson 4 math assignment in their notebook. Also, the word problem should be set up in the 3-column format to resemble the problem done in class today. Reading -- If students did not finish Story Structure and/or Proofreading for Spelling, they must finish it for homework. The spelling can be written on the back or on loose leaf paper. Tomorrow we will have both a spelling test and a reading test on story structure. Homework:
Math 4.2 Lesson 3 Homework - Metric conversions -- capacity Today, we met with our pre-k buddies and worked on our door decorations for tomorrow's contest. Students created puzzle pieces about themselves, and the we fitted them together with the heading "Diversity Fits Us!"
Students do not have any official homework this evening. This gives them time to study their multiplication facts or spelling words or to get in some extra independent reading before the quarter ends. Homework:
Math -- 4.2 Lesson 2 Homework. Students should have their Problem Set along with them to use as a guide. Spelling - Crossword puzzle for words ending in -ed and -ing. Students should also finish their individualized list. One copy should stay at home for studying. Congratulations to Bailey Williams for being nominated as Student of the Week!
On Monday, the students will attend the Hispanic Heritage Month Assembly. Next week we will be working on metric conversions for mass and capacity. This is a great way to review place value as well as addition and subtraction. We will also work with two-step problem solving using metric measurements. In reading, students will continue their novel studies. We will work on story structure, with the main focus on identify the plot and being able to sequence the main events of their novels. During science, students will finish building and testing their prototypes by the end of the week and then prepare for their presentations. If you have not turned in Pilot Light Surveys, field trip permission slips, or signed progress reports, please turn them in by Monday, October 24th. Homework:
Math - 4.2 Lesson 1 Homework. Students should follow the Problem Set we did in class together. For word problems 4-7, they are to read the problem and then tell whether they should add or subtract. They are not solve the problems tonight. Spelling - Students will illustrate their spelling words. They began the assignment in class. Reminders: Field trip permissions slips, Pilot Light Surveys, and Signed progress reports should be turned in tomorrow. Homework:
Spelling - write 1 sentence for each spelling word. The word should be in the sentence. Reading - Maniac Magee reading group - read chapters 19-21 Math - Study X facts --- timed tests on Thursday. Today the students received four handouts from the Pilot Light program regarding a survey. Two of the forms are the same. One copy is for you to keep at home for future reference and the other is to be filled out and returned to school.
Homework: Math Section Review p57/69 even numbered problems, except for #8 on page 57. The students completed the odd numbered problems in class today. They are having a math test tomorrow. Reminders: Field trip permission slips are due this week.
Student fees are still being collected in the office. Your child's materials for the science project are due tomorrow. They will start building their prototypes at 9:00. Homework: Math -- subtraction review handout. Students must do a check for each problem. Spelling - complete the individual list copy form. |
