Reading - Cause and Effect worksheet, study spelling words Math - practice multiplication facts All lunch forms are due tomorrow. This week we will be switching over from multiplication to division in math. It is very important that you continue to work with your child on his/her multiplication facts. I am expecting all students to have mastered their facts by the time they leave for winter break (100% in four minutes or less).
During reading, we will begin to learn about cause and effect in informational text. Spelling word list for this week includes words with the i before e, except after c and in words like neighbor and weigh. achieve neighbor brief pierce ceiling receipt deceit receive field sleigh niece weight Students are to sort the words by spelling and sound (3 columns) on page S10 of reading notebook. Students are to correct their math test from last Tuesday. Any students who received a D or F will retake the test tomorrow. m We are looking for a few more shoe boxes to use in science class this week. We have a full two days of work this week. Students will have a test on main idea, long E spelling words, and multiplication in math. Today we did assignments in class to review for all three of these assessments.
Homework: Students who needed extra practice after completing the section review in class, were given math homework. This included either multiplication, perimeter, and/or area practice. This week we will be working on multiplication in math. We will begin with using place value chart to regroup when adding 3 and 4 digit numbers by 1 digit numbers.
On Tuesday, we will take both the spelling (long A) word test and a test on context clues. Beginning on Wednesday, we will work on main idea and supporting details in informational text. Students will get their long E spelling list on Wednesday. In science, we will focus on Wind and Solar Energy this week and next week demonstrating how they provide energy. On Friday afternoon, we will walk to the UofC physics building for a physics demonstration. The cost of the trip is free. Thank you to all of the parents who attended Report Card Pick-up last night. If you did not return the lunch application form with your child today, please turn it in on Monday.

Students should also be reading at least 10 pages per night, so at least 30 pages by the time they return on Monday. I would like to say THANK YOU to all of the parents who are veterans! Reminder -- Parent-Teacher Conferences are Wednesday. Your child should have brought home their scheduled time yesterday.

Math -- 4.3 Lesson 1 homework 1-3. Students should not complete 4a,b as we did not work on that in class today. Students should be using the formulas from our lesson and show their work for each of the problems. The second quarter is here. Our reading focus will be informational text. In science, we will be studying a unit on energy. For the first half or so of the quarter, our math focus will be multiplication and division. It will be very important that your child is practicing his/her facts nightly.
Just a reminder Parent-Teacher Conferences are Wednesday, November 9th. Your child has a notice with the time of your conference listed on it. Friday is Veteran's Day, so there is no school for students. Report Card Pick-up is next Wednesday. Your child received a notice today regarding times. Please select list your top 3 choices for times. I will send home a second note on Monday with your scheduled time.
