~Catered dinner from MacArthur's will be served ~Battle of the Grandmas Dessert competition ~The Chicago Children's Choir will perform at 6pm ~A Poetry Slam will be held after that Ray students are invited to participate in the poetry slam! Read/perform a poem -- either your original work or someone else's -- on the topic of Black History. Please submit your poems and contact information to Keiana Barrett ([email protected]) by February 8th. The end of unit - Oceans, Atmosphere, and Climate test is on Wednesday, January 30th. You should be studying your notes daily. We should be done adding notes on Friday after we complete lesson 3.4. After lesson 3.4, a summary of the chapter notes should be written. You will be turning in your notes on Wednesday (1/30) as well.

6th Grade - Your topic must have something to do with Oceans and Atmosphere. 5th Grade - Your topic can be anything from your Biosphere unit of study. Choose 1 of the activities below. All work is to be done on paper and turned in no later than Monday, January 28th at the beginning of your class period. Work is NOT to be submitted through Google Classroom. All work must be completed in students’ own handwriting. No typed or computerized work will be accepted. NO LATE WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED! Draw A Poster You may draw a poster of a historical scientific event, person or topic. It must be about an event or topic that we have studied. You must also furnish a written bibliography of sources you used to furnish ideas on the back. Your poster should include key scientific concepts and definitions of key vocabulary terms. Your poster must be neatly done and colored. Crossword Puzzle: Create a crossword puzzle using a minimum of twenty terms from the unit of study mentioned above. Write clues to solve your puzzle and include a key! Use graph paper for your crossword puzzle. Outline the boxes that would be filled in. Make sure your clues are not too easy or too difficult. Everything must be spelled correctly. Make sure your work is neatly done and age/grade level appropriate. Children’s Book: Write a short story from one of the topics from the units mentioned above. Make sure to include a book cover, author, illustrations, vocabulary and page numbers. 5 page minimum. Spelling, neatness, grammar, and punctuation count. All illustrations should be colored. 6th Grade students - 5 FUSE reflections are due on 1/25. Do not attach 5 separate documents. Just create 1 document and include the name and level of each challenge. Use the template as a guide. You must have completed the level in order to do a reflection. You will not get credit for the reflection if the level is not showing as complete in FUSE. 6th Grade:
Brainpop.com "Wind" Watch the movie and take the REVIEW quiz. Remember to submit to the correct class and make sure it is a grade you are satisfied with. Due no later than 8:45 AM on 1/24. 5th Grade: Brainpop.com "Water Supply" Watch the movie and take the REVIEW quiz. Remember to submit to the correct class and make sure you are satisfied with your grade. Due no later than 1:00 PM on 1/24. 6th Grade: You will take Cornell Notes on the article Wind Driven Currents. Use the link in Google Classroom to go to the Ocean Currents page. Click on the image for Wind Driven Currents. Use the arrows at the bottom of the page to move to the next page. There are 5 pages in the article. Be sure to take notes on the full article for credit. Write your notes on loose leaf paper. Attach the Cornell Note-Taking Checklist (handed out in class on 1/10) to your completed notes and turn them in the class tray no later than Thursday, January 17th at the beginning of your class period. You may turn them in early.
5th Grade: Assignment is in READWORKS.ORG. Read "Rhubarb Grows in the Dark" and answer the 10 comprehension questions. Be sure to turn in your work in readworks when complete. Also, review your results. If you did not get a satisfactory result, let me know before end of day on Wednesday, so I can rest your assignment. |
