Congratulations to Ari Stanton-Thomas for being named Student of the Week and displaying the character trait of responsibility.
Progress Reports need to be signed and returned Monday. Monday is picture day! Next week we will be continuing with our novels. Our focus will be story structure. On Tuesday, students will take a test on understanding character. In math, we will continue to work on subtraction and multi-step addition and subtraction word problems. In science, students will develop diagrams for their natural disaster project. They will then create and begin to test their prototypes during the week. Student groups are responsible for their own materials. On Monday, October 31, we will be taking a walking field trip to the Logan Arts Center. The trip is free, but I do need all permission slips by Thursday, October 20th. Reminders: Picture Day is Monday, October 17th. Forms need to be turned in by Monday.

This month's character trait is Responsibility.
We had a very productive week. Students completed their novel activities for The Whipping Boy and the Pilot Light program coordinator came on Thursday to observe our food lesson. The students are making great progress on their multiplication facts. They should continue to study their facts each night as our mastery goal is 100% on all 100 facts in less than three minutes by the end of the year. In science, students built and tested dams to help prepare them for our engineering design projects which we will be beginning in class next week. In case there is no school next week, I have posted student assignments on google classroom (classroom.google.com). Your child has his/her email address, username, and password to access their account. Both the reading and math assignments should be completed in the child's corresponding notebook. The title for each assignment should appear at the top of their notebook page. Each assignment should be done on a different page. It is not necessary to print the assignment for students to complete them. Only complete assignments dated October 6 and October 7. Homework:
Math Group 2: Estimation and Subtraction worksheet page 59. Students are to round to the greatest place and then subtract. Their work should be done in their math notebook. Just a reminder Progress Reports will go home with students on Friday.
Students received picture day envelopes today. Homework: Reading: Jemmy and Prince Brat both changed for the better. A. Which of the two characters, at the end of the story, would you like to be friends with? Tell why. B. What changes would you like to make in yourself by the end of fourth grade? Tell why. Today we met with our Pre-K buddies. Last week the students played with slime. This week they teamed up to write a story about their slime. The pre-k students and teachers are really enjoying the time that they get to spend with the fourth grade students each week.
